Electric fuel pump wiring is essential, as it provides power to the system of the vehicle for a smooth navigation of the fuel from the tank to the engine. The electrical systems require immense care as the working and the safety becomes very important.
A fuel pump serves to be an energy-cum-fuel provider to the entire electric system of the vehicle. A fuel pump is required for an efficient fuel transfer to take place from the tank to the engine of the vehicle. The fuel pump wiring is important as the engine will feel parched, as it is not acquiring enough fuel to run the vehicle in a smooth manner.
We are in the position to make adequate changes in the condition to make the engine all the more efficient by converting your vehicle into a vehicle with an electric fuel pump. It is through this that the engine will work smoothly without giving you any troubles.
All you need to do is to replace the fuel pump wiring or install one in your vehicle. Make sure that when you are handling any electric equipment, you must practice utmost care and precaution in doing so. The fuel pump replacement cost may range between $180 and $400, on an average.

Installing an Electric Fuel Pump Wiring

Things You Will Need
  • Screwdrivers
  • Soldering Iron
  • Wrenches
  • Fire Extinguisher*
  • Sockets
  • Fuel Pump
*It is always beneficial to keep a fire extinguisher along, as you are working with electrical equipment and sets. Make sure the environment you are working in, is safe, airy and open. It is better to have it along during the process, rather than neglecting the need and regretting later.

Things You Must Do

1. Before you begin, you need to release the fuel pressure. It is only then, that you will be able to remove the fuel pump. The pressure remains even after the engine is put off. So there are certain steps that you need to take to release the fuel pressure.
2. Let the engine cool down. Meanwhile you can wear your protective gear and start to work. For this you need to find the fuel pump fuse or the relay. When you have found it, you just have to start your car. You have to pull the relay or the fuse correctly when the engine is put on.
3. With the above step, you are rest assured that there is no fuel pressure in the fuel pump. Now, disconnect the negative terminals from the battery. This is important as you do not want to endure any sparks or explosions while you are conducting your activity of replacing the fuel pump.
4. You need to find out where the fuel pump is located. It can either be inside the gas tank or in the anterior portion of the fuel tank underneath the car. By keeping the fuel line connected to the fuel tank you are making sure that there are no leaks taking place.
5. If the fuel pump is in front of the fuel tank, it will be tightened with a few nuts and bolts that you need to unscrew. Unscrew the pump and make sure that the wires are kept intact. They should sustain no damage.

6. Disconnect the fuel pump only when you are prepared to connect it to the new one.
7. To disconnect and remove the fuel pump lines, unscrew the bolts that hold the low pressure side of the pump. This happens when you have the pump underneath the car in front of the fuel tank. This pump will have a line in and line out.
8. Now is the time to disconnect the electric fuel pressure pump wiring. Disconnect the positive (red) and the negative wiring (black).
9. Tighten the wires with a clamp by connecting the red wire to the positive terminal and the black would be connected to the negative terminal. Make sure you know which one belongs where and make a note of this arrangement.
It may seem obvious as to which wire belongs to which terminal. However, you may be proved wrong when you go completely bizarre about the entire situation.

10. Connect the negative battery cable to the black one and secure the bolts well. You are done with the process of replacing or installing an electric fuel pump.
A piece of advice: If you are having an electric pump that creates noise, it is better you consult your automobile dealer and get the problem fixed. Make sure they pay careful attention to your problem and do a satisfactory job worth the penny you pay.
